A spiny shrub up to 3m tall, found in sub-tropical, temperate and sub-alpine zones.
Plant Description:
Leaves simple,elliptic to narrow-lanceolate,margin entire or minutely toothed. Inflorescence a raceme, axillary or on short branches, many flowered. Flower in clusters, white,borne in axial of spines,7-15mm across. Calyx cup-shaped with 5 unequal rounded lobes. Petals round.Fruit a drupe, oblong-cylindrical,fleshy,dark purple,one-seeded.
Flowering and Fruiting:
April-November.
Harvesting Time:
August-December.
Medicinal Value:
Locally seed oil is used in rheumatism and weakness of bones. Plant extract and fruit cake is useful in ringworm, eczema and other skin diseases.
